What Is the Qolsys IQ Panel 4?

The IQ Panel 4 is an all-in-one security and smart-home control panel built around a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen. The European and UK specification includes 868 MHz PowerG, LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Z-Wave Plus, Bluetooth, an internal siren and a front-facing camera.

It is designed to work with Alarm.com connected services. This gives the system a modern app, cloud and automation route, but also means the selected service package and activation route must be confirmed before installation.

For MW Global Security Services, the IQ Panel 4 provides a logical modern PowerG option after the older Visonic PowerMaster 10, 30 and 33 systems. It may also provide a migration route for some compatible 868 MHz PowerG devices, although reuse must be checked model by model.

The IQ Panel 4 should be compared with Ajax and other current platforms rather than being recommended automatically. The correct choice depends on device compatibility, app and monitoring requirements, automation, ongoing costs and the property risk.

Key UK/European Specification

  • 7-inch 1280 × 800 touchscreen
  • 868 MHz PowerG
  • Up to 128 PowerG security devices
  • Up to 242 role-based user codes
  • LTE Category 4
  • Dual-band 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi
  • Z-Wave Plus 700/800
  • Bluetooth Low Energy
  • 8MP front camera
  • 85 dB internal siren
  • 24-hour standby specification

When the IQ Panel 4 May Be the Right Choice

Its strongest use case is a customer who wants a current PowerG touchscreen platform and accepts the Alarm.com service model.

A Strong Fit When

  • A modern touchscreen interface is important
  • The design benefits from 868 MHz PowerG devices
  • Individual codes are needed for many users
  • Cellular and Wi-Fi reporting are required
  • Alarm.com app, video or automation services are wanted
  • Some existing PowerG devices may be suitable for reuse
  • The customer accepts an ongoing connected-service package

Another System May Be Better When

  • The customer wants no ongoing connected-service charge
  • A simple local bells-only alarm is all that is required
  • Existing devices are not compatible with the UK panel
  • Extensive wired circuits need direct panel integration
  • Ajax better matches the required ownership and app model
  • A larger commercial hybrid system such as IQ Pro is needed
  • The required UK product or service package is unavailable

IQ Panel 4 Capabilities That Matter in Practice

128 PowerG Security Devices

The UK and European specification lists up to 128 compatible 868 MHz PowerG security devices.

242 Role-Based User Codes

Dealer, installer, master, user, guest and duress roles support larger households and multi-user premises.

Four Partitions

The software supports up to four partitions for general operation. The official manual states that partitioning has not been evaluated for EN Grade 2.

24-Hour Standby

The European and UK specification lists 24-hour standby, subject to the approved battery, system condition and installed configuration.

8MP Panel Camera

The front camera has a 120-degree field of view and can support configured disarm or alarm-image features.

85 dB Internal Siren

Four front-facing speakers provide panel audio and an internal siren. Additional warning devices may still be required by the design.

Dual Panel and Wall Tamper

The panel includes enclosure and wall-removal tamper protection when mounted and configured correctly.

Remote Software Support

System health, updates and authorised remote configuration can be supported through the professional platform.

PowerG Security and Safety Devices

The system design should use devices supported by the exact 868 MHz UK or European panel and the required compliance level.

Intrusion Detection

  • Door and window contacts
  • Internal motion detectors
  • Dual-technology detectors
  • Shock and glass-break detectors
  • Outdoor motion detection where suitable
  • Compatible camera motion detectors

Warning and User Devices

  • Internal and external sirens
  • Wireless repeaters
  • PowerG keyfobs
  • Compatible secondary keypads
  • Proximity-enabled keypads and tags
  • Fixed panic devices where correctly specified

Safety and Environmental Alerts

  • Smoke and heat devices
  • Carbon-monoxide detection
  • Flood and water-leak alerts
  • Temperature monitoring where supported
  • Personal alert devices
  • Wired-to-wireless converter options

Alarm-platform fire, carbon-monoxide, flood, medical or personal-alert functions do not automatically replace any statutory fire alarm, life-safety, medical or environmental system required for the premises.

Can Existing Visonic PowerG Devices Be Reused?

Potentially—but the word PowerG alone is not enough to guarantee compatibility.

What Must Be Checked

  • 868 MHz operating frequency
  • Exact device model number
  • Device age and physical condition
  • Battery condition
  • Supported functions on IQ Panel 4
  • Firmware and enrolment behaviour
  • Compliance requirements for the new design

What May Be Reusable

The official UK and European supported-device list includes a range of PowerG contacts, motion detectors, camera detectors, sirens, smoke devices, CO devices, repeaters and wired-to-wireless converters.

Only devices confirmed on the current compatibility list should be included in a migration quotation.

What Must Not Be Promised

We should not promise that every PowerMaster detector, camera, siren or keypad will transfer simply because it carries the PowerG name.

A site survey and device schedule are required before any reuse saving is confirmed.

Alarm.com App, Cloud and Cellular Services

The IQ Panel 4 is designed around Alarm.com. This is an important advantage for connected security, but it creates an ongoing service dependency that must be explained clearly.

Mobile App

Supported app functions can include arming, disarming, notifications, user management, automation and compatible video features.

LTE + Wi-Fi

The UK and European panel includes LTE and dual-band Wi-Fi. Supported single- or dual-path reporting depends on configuration and service package.

Cloud Account

Remote services require an active account created and maintained through an appropriate Alarm.com service provider.

Ongoing Subscription

App, cloud, LTE, video, automation, monitoring and advanced features normally require an ongoing service package.

Package-Dependent Features

Not every account includes every function. Notifications, video, image features and automation depend on the selected package.

Provider Continuity

The activation route, account ownership, transfer process and support responsibilities should be recorded at handover.

MW Global will confirm the available UK activation route, included services, recurring costs and account arrangements before installation is agreed.

Panel Camera, Disarm Images and Privacy

The IQ Panel 4 includes an 8MP front-facing camera. Camera functions should be configured deliberately rather than enabled without discussion.

Possible Uses

  • Disarm photographs
  • Alarm-event photographs
  • Supported Alarm.com Peek-In functions
  • User verification
  • Panel-based compatible camera viewing
  • Event review

Customer Decisions

  • Who is authorised to view images
  • Which events trigger a photograph
  • Whether staff or visitors are affected
  • Account permissions
  • Retention and platform settings
  • Privacy notices where appropriate

Important Limitation

The panel camera is not a substitute for a properly designed CCTV system. Its role is event and user verification within the supported Alarm.com service.

Z-Wave and Supported Smart-Home Integration

The European and UK specification includes Z-Wave Plus 700/800. Alarm.com also lists a range of compatible UK and European automation products, but country and product availability varies.

Possible Integrations

  • Selected smart locks
  • Lighting and appliance controls
  • Thermostats
  • Garage-door controllers
  • Water valves
  • Shutter controls
  • Compatible Alarm.com cameras and doorbells

Design Limits

  • Exact device compatibility must be checked
  • Alarm.com package support may be required
  • Regional Z-Wave frequency matters
  • Some products require internet or cloud services
  • Security-critical functions need fail-safe planning
  • Automation does not replace alarm-system compliance

Not Every Feature Is Required

The IQ Panel 4 can be installed primarily as a security system. Automation should only be added where it provides a clear operational benefit.

UK Grade 2 and PD 6662 Position

The current official installation documentation states that the appropriate IQ Panel 4 can be used within systems installed to conform to PD 6662:2017 at Security Grade 2 and environmental Class I when the specified product, devices, settings, signalling and installation conditions are met.

Panel Model and Region

The exact UK or European 868 MHz product and approved devices must be used.

Correct Programming

Grade 2 settings affect codes, supervision, arming, delays, tamper operation and other panel behaviour.

Complete System

Panel, detectors, sirens, power, communication paths, installation and documentation must be assessed together.

The manual also identifies functions that have not been evaluated for UK or EN Grade 2 use. For example, the built-in panel glass-break and panel-motion features should not be relied upon as Grade 2 detection devices. Partitioning is also stated as not evaluated for EN Grade 2.

The IQ Panel 4 model name alone does not guarantee insurer acceptance, police response or compliance. Written insurer and monitoring requirements should be obtained before the system is ordered.
